If you are just beginning your CPA Exam journey, you may not know of a free tool made available by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The AICPA, in conjunction with the National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA) and Prometric, administers and delivers the CPA Exam. The AICPA Board of Examiners provides oversight for the CPA exam.

The AICPA also provides a free sample test on their website, which is linked below:

AICPA CPA Exam Sample Test

During my studies and preparation for the CPA exams, I found this sample test very beneficial for multiple reasons.

  1. The format of the exam is going to be very similar to what you see on test day at the Prometric testing center.
  2. It gives you exposure to a few additional practice questions that you may not have seen in your CPA review course.
  3. The AICPA website states that the sample exam includes questions from all sections: AUD, FAR, REG, ISC, BAR, and TCP.

The sample test is currently made up of five testlets. There are two testlets containing five multiple choice questions each. These two testlets are followed by three teslets contained two task-based simulations each. The timing of breaks and testlet formatting should be similar to the real exam as well.

While this shortened exam may not be the full, comprehensive exam you will see on exam day, extra practice will provide useful for you on exam day. This benefit combined with the preview of the test format will add some additional comfort on the day of your exam. I highly recommend checking out this quick and useful resource provided by the AICPA!
