Before things get too far out of hand, we as the accounting profession need to set the record straight. Since 2017 we have been talking about TCJA – the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Whatever your thoughts on the actual policy, we can all agree that TCJA rolled off the tongue very nicely.

That brings us to 2025, with the enactment of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Within weeks we are seeing OBBB, OBBBA, and even BBB. We have are at a crossroads – and the decision of which path to take has the ability to haunt us for the rest of our glorious accounting careers. I believe the above mentioned options will set us up for failure, given the repetitive triple B in the middle of the name. It just sounds – bad.

I propose a new reference, one that rolls of the tongue and is even a nice mix of several Star Wars characters. This is a recipe for success. I propose we swiftly alter the name of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to:

OB3

It’s pretty self explanatory, but by adding the 3 after the B we instantly make this Bill roll off the tongue. It also eliminates years of saying “OBBB” or “OBBBA” out loud when working with clients and explaining taxes to family and friends at Thanksgiving.
